He has worked as a soloist with many of today’s great conductors including Previn, Haitink, Sir
Colin Davis, Rostropovich and Menuhin. Among his many recordings as a soloist Tims’ Bach Suites are regarded as one of the best modern cello performances. Hugh has performed at the Promenade Concerts at London’s Albert Hall. As a chamber musician he plays with the Nash Ensemble. “Hands on Heart” is a a recent recording in memory of his brother Steve featuring a live performance of the Kodaly Sonata. In recent years he has toured the UK playing Elgar and Brahms concertos with the Moscow Philharmonic and in Spain with the LSO and has given recitals in Dubai, Beirut, New York and elsewhere.
