BERND GLEMSER, the celebrated German pianist, will give 2 concerts during May 2017. The first will be on Tuesday May 16 and will feature compositions by Bach-Busoni, Beethoven, Brahms and Chopin. The second concert will be on Thursday May 18 and Bernd will play compositions by Haydn, Debussy and Chopin.
Bernd was born in 1962 and often had to ski to his piano lessons from his early home in the hills of Southern Germany. He was a student of Vitaly Margulis, the Russian pianist. These studies clearly paid off as this young pianist travelled the world and broke a record that had been on the books since 1890. He won 17 competitions and special prizes in succession. He says the prize money enabled him to buy his first grand piano!
Bernd has played with many prestigious orchestras. These include the Philadelphia Orchestra, the London Philharmonic, the Tonhalle-Orchestra Zurich and the Orchestra of Santa Cecilia Rome. He has collaborated with several esteemed conductors including Herbert Blomstedt, Ricardo Chailly, Myung-Whun Chung, Wolfgang Sawallisch and Franz Welser-Möst. He has played in many famous concert halls including the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, London’s Royal Festival Hall the Musikverein in Vienna. In another success Bernd was appointed the country’s youngest piano professor at Saarbrücken’s University of Music.
Over the course of his long career, Bernd has recorded nearly 40 CDs, including Mendelssohn’s “Lieder ohne Worte” and the “Variations Sérieses”. He has contributed to countless radio and TV productions and collaborates with many friends and colleagues in chamber music ensembles. Bernd’s recording of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 was featured in the 2007 film Spider-Man 3.
His reputation and status is such that he receives regular invitations to give concerts all over Europe as well as in the United States, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Australia and various South American countries.
In 2003, Bernd was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit by Germany’s Federal President Johannes Rau.

Amigos’ de Música concerts at Os Agostos begin at 7.00pm sharp. Doors open at 6.00pm and wine, fruit juices and canapés will be served. There will be a short interval. Guests and non-members are asked to donate €25 per person to help offset expenses.
The AMIGOS DE MÚSICA is an international group of around 95 members who stage musical activities by internationally renowned musicians and also sponsor young Portuguese musicians. It is a non-profit organization and has been bringing great music to the Algarve for over 25 years.
