Akiko Yamamoto, one of Japan’s up and coming pianists, will give two concerts soon. The first, on May 14th. will consist of pieces by Mozart, Debussy and Schumann. The May 17th. concert will feature works by Bach, Schumann, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov. Full concert details are on the Centro Cultural’s website (see below).

Akiko Yamamoto - PianoAkiko started playing the piano when she was four. She first studied at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, one of Japan’s most prestigious music institutions, under Prof. Nobuko Amada. She has won various scholarships presented by institutions such as Meiji-Yasuda Quality of Life Foundation and these allowed her to continue her studies at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Akiko has been invited to many prestigious international Music Festivals including the Mechlenburg-Vorpommern in Germany, the City of London and the International Piano Festival in the Ukraine. She has performed with the world famous Swiss Romande and the Zwickau Symphony Orchestras. She will be playing with the Kyushu Orchestra next season. Apart from her solo engagements, Akiko also plays regularly with the Ebene Quartet in France, Germany and England. Her deep interest in chamber music led her to study under Prof. Eric Le Sage at the Conservatoire National de la Région de Paris. Eric gave two recitals at the Centro Cultural in May 2007. Akiko’s first CD (Brahms Piano Quartet,) in collaboration with the Ebene Quartet, will be released in 2009.

Members and guests are asked to be at the Centro Cultural at around 1900. Concerts start at 1930.
