Dear Amigos,
The last two concerts from our dear friend Piers Lane came like sparkling rays of sunshine to cheer us up during these seemingly endless wet and gloomy days of winter. The magical combination of Piers, Chopin and candlelight ensured that both evenings were completely sold out, yet again making us wish that we had space for more seats. It is impossible to imagine a more dedicated musician than Piers. He records regularly on the Hyperion label, is heard often on BBC Radio 3, has solo concert schedules, plays with well known trios and quartets as well as prestigious orchestras both in Europe and Australia yet he still finds the time to come and play for us at São Lourenço. And I wonder how many people noticed that the piano was adorned in a fine set of new wooden shoes. The reason for them is quite simple. By putting the brass feet of the piano onto these relatively soft wooden pads, direct contact between the casters and the hard, stone like ladrilhos is cushioned, thereby reducing the resonance and softening the sound. These well made, unobtrusive little pads have come to us as a welcome gift from Steno Stazzeri and I thank him here on behalf of all the Amigos.
The next items on viagra lowest prices the musical agenda are the debut concerts on the 25th and 27th to be performed by the young Duo Mecina, Francisco Canto and Isolda Crespi, Clarinet and Piano respectively. These two Iberians met for the first time when they were students at the Royal College of Music in London. Francisco is Spanish and Isolda is half Spanish, half Portuguese and the concerts will give us the opportunity to hear familiar pieces partnered with more contemporary works. You can
expect to receive the program for the Duo Mecina shortly and included in the same envelope will be the details of the Anne Kaasa concerts on April 14th & 17th
We have had to change to the date of our 20th Anniversary Black Tie Dinner although the location at Vila Monte near to Moncarapacho remains the same. This will now take place on Friday the 4th of June, a fortnight later than originally planned. Amigos who are also members of the Algarve Wine Society will already know the excellent location and facilities of this very pleasant Relais & Chateau Hotel where we intend to mark the twentieth year of our foundation in some style. Full details together with directions, menu and reservations slip will be included in the April Newsletter and I shall be encouraging everyone to attend and bring any visiting friends and family.
As sometimes happens at this time of year, we have just been blessed with the support of two new members and I take this opportunity to welcome Jutta Hoehn from Almancil and Janet Leffler from Areeiro, Loule into the fold.
Finally, please make a note of Friday April 23rd for an Amigos only recital by Antonio Cebola. This is a treat for all but especially those who heard his astonishing performance at the end of the hugely successful Paul Crossley Master
Class series last October. More information will follow.
