Dear Amigos,
After the four piano recitals in October we are now back on track. Pandemic mandated cancellations had put us in arrears in fulfilling our promises of providing 18 concerts per membership year. This required some doubling up on our habitual 2 concerts per month and, voila, back to the norm.
And, of course, we did not mind at all the added trips up to Os Agostos during the beautiful month of October, being royally welcomed on the terraces to hear first Pierre Andre Doucet give us endearing samples of his art, and then Irina Chkourindina conjuring up Russian sounds with the help of her husband, and a delicious second evening in the balm of Mozart and Chopin. Truly two more musicians to be filed under “Amigos Best”.
In November we get the return of Antoine de Grolée. He played for us 2 years ago and the programme he is bringing this time is full of surprises, with music by Bach, Chopin and Schubert on Tuesday, November 9th, and on Thursday, November 11th a potpourri he calls “Night Music”, with composition by 12 different composers, incl. Ravel, Granados, Glazunov, Janacek, Schumann, Grieg, Liszt, Satie and Sibelius.

In view of our increased membership and popularity with other guests, I would urge you, ! members !, to avail yourselves of the early-booking-membership privilege by making your reservations as soon as possible after receiving this advance notice!
And, please, do not forget to cancel your reservation if at the last moment you find that you cannot attend. We have a waiting list!!!
As usual, guests will be asked to contribute EURO 25.00, and please wait for confirmation as capacity is limited. There will be a reception desk at Os Agostos. However, to avoid crowding on arrival, we still request that payment for guests be made in advance – Cristina will, as usual, provide details when confirming places. Upon arrival at Os Agostos, please pass by said reservation desk to pick up your “RESERVED” sign to facilitate marking your seat preference in the auditorium.
SAFETY CONCERNS and HOUSE RULES: Our hosts asked me to pass on this message:
When you return to the public area where the welcome reception is prepared after checking in (this may not be on the outdoor terraces as temperatures sink, but in the spacious Os Agostos White Dining Room adjacent for easier circulation), and during intervals, please always keep as much distancing as possible.
EGM—EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL MEETING
PLEASE NOTE: preceding the Thursday recital on November 11, we shall meet in the auditorium at 17:30 to hold our EGM. This meeting is called so as to give the members, including and especially the new members who joined us this year, the chance to meet the Committee and to discuss with the Officers any matters they may have. And we in turn will have the opportunity to welcome and make the acquaintance of these new Members and to make pertinent announcements.
There is no need to make a reservation, but please use the PROXY FORM as directed if you will not be able to attend the EGM. For your convenience and information you were sent copies of the Annual Reports by the President as well as the Treasurer. These meetings usually are not very long, so there will be ample time for drinks before the concert.
Our hosts, Maria and Antonio Farrajota and I look forward to welcoming you again in Os Agostos, albeit all still masked until further notice. Let’s still be careful, let’s stay safe and enjoy the great music.
