VOL’ART Ensemble
This String Quartet was created in 2019 and is directed by Mikhail Shumov. The designation as Vol’Art Ensemble is a combination of “volume” (musical nuances) and “art”. It does not have a standard instrumental formation. It works with renowned musicians, invited for specific events and presents diversified repertoires. It was featured in the 30 Years Amigos de Musica Anniversary Gala in September 2021.
Mikhail Shumov, cello
Mikhail was born in Moscow where he began is music studies. In 2012 he graduated with distinction from RCM in London. He attended many competitions as solo and as a chamber musician and was awarded several prizes, such as the first prize in the International Competition ‘Teacher and student’ in Moscow in 2000 and first prize at the International Competition «Premio Citta Di Padova» (piano quartet) in Italy in 2008. Mikhail has performed in Russia, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, Egypt, Tunisia and Canada, where he participated in the Banff Summer Arts Festival. He also had the opportunity to work with renowned musicians such as Natalia Gutman and Stefan Popov. He is currently working as the principal cellist of ‘Orquestra Clássica do Sul’ and teaching in Conservatorio de Música de Loulé – Francisco Rosado.
Francisco Lourenço (viola)
Francisco Lourenço graduated with honors from Universidade de Aveiro in 2018. Continuing his studies, he works for a Master degree at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris while also attending the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Brussels.
Francisco is currently the Solo Viola in the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchestra, and regularly collaborates with the Orchestre National de Lille, European Union Youth Orchestra, Staatskapelle Dresden, Orchestra of the Royal Concertgebouw (through the project Side by Side), Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, and has participated in festivals in both solo and chamber music such as the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival (under prof. Tabea Zimmermann) Festival Internacional de Música do Marvão, Festival de Voirons, among others.
João Castro ( I violin)
João Castro is a member of Orquestra Clássica do Sul. He was a student of Nuno Soares, Zofia Wóycicka and he finished his Solo Master in Detmold Hochschule für Musik, Germany, with Professor Thomas Christian.
As a chamber music player, João had the opportunity to work with prestigious Professors as Ryszard Wóycicki, Xenia Jankovic, Diemut Poppen, Peter Orth and Auryn Quartet and he also played in “Harmos Festival”, “Cantabile Festival”, “Mosaiken”, among others. He is a Prize Winner in “Prémio Jovens Músicos” and 1st Prize in “Auryn Competition” (2015 and 2016). João regularly collaborates with Gulbenkian Orchestra, Ensemble MPMP, Detmolder Kammerochester.
Sara Cymbron (II violin) Bio
Sara Cymbron was born in Ponta Delgada, Azores. She started her music studies at the „Conservatório Regional de Ponta Delgada“, did Bachelor studies at the „ Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo“ on Porto and since 2016 is working for her Master at the „Hochschule für Musik Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy“, in Leipzig.
As an orchestra musician, Sara has had the opportunity to play and work with „MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig“, „Wuppertal Sinfonieorchester“, „Mahler Jugend Orchestra“, „Kammersymphonie Leipzig“, „Dessau Philharmonie“.
She won the 1st price at the Porto „Helena Sá e Costa Competition” and has a scholarship from the „Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian“, Lisbon.
Sara regularly collaborates with „Kammersymphonie Leipzig“, „MDR Sinfonieorchestra“, Sinfonietta Leipzig and „Orquestra Clássica de Espinho“.
Ivetta Natzkaya, viola
Ivetta Natzkaya was born and grew up in St. Petersburg, Russia. She started playing violin at the age of 7 and finished her BA in St. Petersburg and her MA in violin and viola in Boston, USA. She has worked in Singapore SO and currently works at the Orquestra do Sul and runs Estudio da Musica in Faro where she teaches violin and piano.

The concerts will take place in the auditorium at Os Agostos. Doors will open at 6.00pm and the concert will begin at 7.00pm. There will be wine, fruit juices and canapés available for self-service. Entry donation is €25 per person for guests and non-members payable in advance by bank transfer.
