We are very grateful to the Russian pianist, Rem Urasin, who has greed to come in her stead.

 

REM URASIN, piano

Rem Urasin is an internationally acclaimed pianist whose work spans concert performance, recording, artistic direction, and large-scale conceptual projects. Born in Kazan, he developed his musical outlook in a culturally diverse environment that continues to inform his artistic perspective.

 A laureate of major international competitions — including the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, the Monte Carlo Piano Masters Grand Prix, the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, and the Sydney International Piano Competition — Urasin has built a distinguished international career.

 Urasin is among the very few pianists in history to have performed the complete works of Frédéric Chopin, including solo pieces, chamber music, vocal compositions, and works for piano and orchestra..

 He has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, and Russia, collaborating with leading orchestras.

Urasin is Artistic Director of the Sviatoslav Richter Foundation Music and Arts Festival in Tarusa and founder of the International Summer School of Art of the Richter Foundation. Since 2022, he has been living in Portugal, continuing his international activity and promoting Portuguese musical heritage through performances, transcriptions, and collaborations with local musicians.

For our concerts on March 21st and 23rd, 2023 we are fortunate to welcome the fabulous pianist Piers Lane again. 

We dedicate these concerts to the memory of JOHN LEVITT, who passed away in London on January 5th, 2023.  
John was a founder member of our association, a life-long President of the AGM and cherished honorary member.

We are in for a pianistic treat in a wonderfully selected programme.  Piers writes: “The programmes I am thinking of are both rather Romantic: to recognise the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Rachmaninoff I shall begin with him in two works.”  Then there is a lot of Chopin on the first evening, and Grieg, Tchaikovsky, Field, Glazunov and Liszt on the second.

London-based Australian pianist Piers Lane has a worldwide reputation as an engaging, searching and highly versatile performer, at home equally in solo, chamber and concerto repertoire. Five times soloist at the BBC Proms, Piers Lane’s wide-ranging concerto repertoire exceeds one hundred works and has led to engagements with many of the world’s great orchestras, working recently with conductors like Sir Andrew Davis, Vassily Sinaisky, Gerard Schwartz and Brett Dean.

In 2015 Piers Lane was appointed Artistic Director of the Sydney International Piano Competition and is responsible for initiatives like the 2021 Online Piano Competition, the Piano Lovers’ Competition for amateur Australian pianists and Composing the Future, a competition to help Australian composers during covid times.

In recent seasons Piers Lane performed three concerti at Carnegie Hall, and world premieres of Carl Vine’s second Piano Concerto and Double Piano Concerto (with Kathryn Stott) Implacable Gifts, both written for him.

He has written and presented over 100 programmes for BBC Radio 3, including the 54-part series The Piano.

All concerts will take place in the auditorium at Os Agostos. Doors will open at 6.00pm and the concert will begin at 7.00pm.

There will be wine, fruit juices and canapés available for self-service. Entry donation is €30.00 per person for guests and non-members payable in advance by bank transfer.
