Dear Amigos, November 17, 2019
How happy I am to sit down and reminisce with you about our latest two music events at Os Agostos!
Our November recitals were true spectacles, and lucky the many Amigos who came to experience
Milan Miladinovich
whom I had announced to you as a pianist with a difference. Little did I know just HOW differently this flamboyant musician comes across with his themed programmes of piano music. We are quite used to verbal introductions, yet Milan explored, quite theatrically, the life and work of the composers, highlighting key aspects of individual works on the piano before launching himself into playing these seminal works by Bach, Chopin, Liszt, Ravel, etc with astonishing virtuosity. These performances seemed to me masterclasses in listening to music, and in the final piece, Ravel’s very poetic “Gaspard de la Nuit”, his separate explications of the three individual stories, finally cracked the mystery of this piece. Milan’s rendition of this “most complicated piano solo work” – according to the Grand Master of the Ravel oeuvre, Paul Crossley – was breath-taking and, quite naturally, he brought the entire audience to their feet for an enthusiastic ovation. And how did he bring us back to terra firma? With a soothing “Träumerei” by Schumann. What an experience !
