27 Years of Great Music

To all Amigos/as

From Helga Hampton

March 3, 2018

Dear Amigos,

Spring greetings ! Indeed, and we got what we all have been crying for: RAIN, please! The calendar declared this the beginning of Spring and Nature provides the necessary wet for the revival of meadow green and floral garden colours, all the while filling our cisterns and pocos. Just in the nick of time. Stay warm and dry – the sun is definitely up there waiting to take over soon.

Our extra-bonus February concerts were a huge success. The great string players, Milena and Roman Simovic, played themselves into the hearts of full-house crowds, opening our minds to a programme of seldom played string duets with great panache. We thus saw that the month of February is indeed good timing for the addition of two more concerts in the Amigo annual programming, so in future your subscription will cover 18 concerts instead of the habitual 16. Good news !!

More good news are the March concerts on Tuesday, March 13th and Thursday March 15th, 2018 at Os Agostos: We have the great privilege of welcoming Piers Lane to sit down at our Yamaha and the programme he chose is amazing: He divides it into two parts: On Tuesday he will play what he calls “A Night in Vienna” with pieces by Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Strauss. And on Thursday “Chopin and the Romantic Russians” with Glazunov, Chopin, Balakirev and Rachmaninov.

Please make your reservations as usual by sending Cristina an email to: or phone her on 914797980

Re the International Music Festival in Marvao (FIMM) about which you have received full information via their website, let me tell you that because their programming is so amazingly diverse and varied, spread over an entire week in July, we have decided to urge you to make your own ticket- and hotel-reservations. Organising a bus was deemed too complicated and not really helpful. You can find all information on their website:

FUTURE PROGRAMMES:   April 2018 will introduce the French pianist, Hélène Tysman, to the Amigos. Her programme suggestions are great pieces by Bach and Debussy in the first part and Chopin and Ravel in the second on the evenings of Tuesday, April 17th and Thursday, April 19th,

OPERA RELAYS IN LOCAL CINEMAS: The good news is that you will now also find these wonderful

Relays from Covent Garden at the new Mar Shopping Centre in Loule as well as at the NOS in the Forum in Faro. Dates: “Carmen” on March 6th, “MacBeth” with Anna Netrebko on April 4th, 2018

ALGARVE CLASSICAL FESTIVAL from March 2nd to May 24th. Information on their website:

I hurry to send this Newsletter out to you today, so in all brevity – stay warm and dry. I look forward to welcoming you at Os Agostos very soon.
