—–Dia de Liberdade—-

25 April 2018

Dear Amigos,

Big holiday today in Portugal ! The people of this country (ours now, too) had been waiting for a long time to be liberated from dictatorship and the horrors of African wars, and on the 25th of April

1974 the day finally came! Some of you may remember this as the Red Carnation Revolution

44 years ago. That is now only a generation ago, and look how successfully the Portuguese have brought their little country up to good European standards during that time! Admirable! So, congratulations to our friends with whom we share a beautiful life in this best corner of Europe and

I commemorated this day by liberating my windows of the red Sahara sand that had been brought over with the last – or should I be careful and say: latest? rains, and by sharing grateful feelings with you all.

Haven`t we had wonderful music at Os Agostos during the first 3 months of 2018? The virtuosity of Hélène Tysman still resounds in my head, and I am so happy about our full-house audiences for practically all our events. The good word is spreading and it gives me not only reassurance, but ever more challenge to keep seeking out and bringing very good world-class artists to the Algarve.

And the May artists certainly fit that slot: Evgeny Sinaiski, piano and Kirill Timofeev, cello will play for us on Tuesday, May 8th and Thursday, May 10th, 2018 an amazing programme of works by Tortelier, Franck and Poulenc on the first evening, and Schubert, Schumann, Martinu, Rossini and Kapustin on the second. Make your reservations as usual by email:

or by telephone: 914797980.

Please remember to cancel your reservation if you find that you will not be able to attend – we have been sending people away and then find we have some empty chairs – embarrassing, that !!

Another reason for sending you this Newsletter today is that in a month´s time on Friday, May 25th, 2018, a group of Amigos will be going to Lisbon to accept the invitation to a

Private Concert of M. José Falcão and Anne Kaasa

at the Falcão residence at 18:00. All details I shall send to the participants in due time. I hope that you have already made travel arrangements if you intend to use public transport. We consider this a beautiful beginning to a Lisbon weekend – something Larry and I do far too seldom. There are still some places available, so please contact me. You are very cordially invited to join and even bring family or friends. Send me an email:

Enjoy Spring, which has sprung in green glory, and I for one am not anxious for the heat to come – these temperatures are just gorgeous and good for our lovely receptions on the OA terraces. I look forward to greeting you there for this penultimate concert series of the 2017-18 membership season.
