May, 2012, NEWSLETTER
Dear Amigos,
An eventful and rich year of concert-making is coming to an end with the two recitals by the Spanish pianist Javier Perianes on June 13th and 16th, 2012.
We will then be able to look back on having welcomed in Sao Lourenco eminent musicians of world renown for the 16 concerts of the 2011/12 Amigos’ season, which were all very well patronised and appreciated.
In September our new membership year commences after the summer break and with this letter I am attaching your membership renewal form for the 2012/13 concert season.
We shall begin on September 5th and 8th with the cellist Tim Hugh who will be accompanied by the violinist/pianist Katerina Mitchell in a wonderful programme of music by Bach, Fauré, de Falla and more. On October 10th and
13th we are able to enjoy the virtuosity of pianist Constantin Sandu, and I can also already tell you that the guitarist Craig Ogden will be coming in Spring 2013.
The usual venue for our monthly concerts in Sao Lourenco remains available to us for as long as Marie Huber remains in residence there. If, however, we need to move – I can assure you that we have
already identified alternative space in the central Faro area where we, together with our wonderful piano, can re-establish a very adequate and amenable base for our social get-togethers and a continuation of excellent music and conviviality.
Another very positive and popular regular feature of our activity is the Amigo sponsorship of a young Portuguese musician. Our present sponsoree, Ana Beatriz Ferreira, whom we support financially during her 3-year study at the London Royal College of Music, is doing extremely well there and we shall, as usual, have the opportunity of hearing her progress during a recital following the Annual General Meeting on Monday, November 26th, 2012. (Please mark this date in your agenda.)
Your renewal form is attached. If you have any queries please
contact us (details below) You may also want to know how new members can join, please bring your music-loving friends into our fold, they will be very welcome.
