Newsletter, 23rd September, 2021

Published: October 7, 2021

Our October artist Hélène Tysman has had to cancel because of illness.

We are very grateful to the Russian pianist, Rem Urasin, who has greed to come in her stead.

REM URASIN, piano

Rem Urasin is an internationally acclaimed pianist whose work spans concert performance, recording, artistic direction, and large-scale conceptual projects. Born in Kazan, he developed his musical outlook in a culturally diverse environment that continues to inform his artistic perspective.

A laureate of major international competitions — including the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, the Monte Carlo Piano Masters Grand Prix, the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, and the Sydney International Piano Competition — Urasin has built a distinguished international career.

Urasin is among the very few pianists in history to have performed the complete works of Frédéric Chopin, including solo pieces, chamber music, vocal compositions, and works for piano and orchestra..

He has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, and Russia, collaborating with leading orchestras.

Urasin is Artistic Director of the Sviatoslav Richter Foundation Music and Arts Festival in Tarusa and founder of the International Summer School of Art of the Richter Foundation. Since 2022, he has been living in Portugal, continuing his international activity and promoting Portuguese musical heritage through performances, transcriptions, and collaborations with local musicians.

30 Years of Great Music

To all Amigos/as

From Helga Hampton

Dear Amigos,

Here a much awaited Newsletter – FINALLY !!!

The Portuguese Government has been true to their promises and declared a general easing of pandemic restrictions as soon as a certain percentage of the population was vaccinated. And today is that day:  Government can be thanked for providing the requisite vaccines so that 85% of the total population of the country was able to be vaccinated. Thus having achieved what no other European country can claim so far.  Congratulations to “our” Government !!!

It is the lifting of social distancing that matters to us.  We can now revert back to soirees only !  All our chairs will be placed back in our auditorium and you are invited to take your places as usual

Yes, I know, some of you deplore the fact that there will be no more matinees, but I assure you, the “forces behind the scene!” (the financial ones!) are breathing a great sigh of relief – matinees were a costly luxury. Our musicians are also very grateful for being given the opportunity to offer “normal’ concert performances again, with full-length works and intervals.

So, please, welcome our first October pianist, Pierre-André Doucet, from Canada, via Belgium.

Tuesday, October 12th and Thursday, October 14th, 2021

at 19:00 in the auditorium of Os Agostos

He will be giving us two exceptionally inspired evenings of works by Franz Schubert, Lili Boulanger and Claude Debussy on Tuesday, more Schubert, Franz Liszt, Mikhail Glinka and Sergei Bortkiewicz

on Thursday. Pierre Andre comes highly recommended as a leading voice among Canada`s young generation of artists. He is also a published author. We are very lucky that he can make a detour to the Algarve while performing in Bruxelles this autumn. As he was the first artist we had to cancel in March 2020, he was given this convenient (to him) October slot. This will, in fact, give you 4 October concert evenings.

The end of October pianist is the Russian Irina Chkourindina, who comes to us from Geneva.

Tuesday, October 26th and Thursday, October 28th, 2021

at 19:00 in the auditorium of Os Agostos

Irina is new to us, and she will be introducing herself with a very special evening on Tuesday, with works by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov, and then with pieces by Mozart and Chopin on Thursday.

You are now able to make your reservations for these October dates.

Please make your reservations by sending an email to: reservasconcertos@gmail.com

As usual guests will be asked to contribute EURO 25.00, and please wait for confirmation as capacity is limited.  There will be a reception desk at Os Agostos. However, to avoid crowding on arrival,  we still request that payment for guests be made in advance – Cristina will, as usual, provide details when confirming places.

Our hosts, Maria and Antonio Farrajota and I look forward to welcoming you again in Os Agostos, albeit all still masked until further notice.  Lets still be careful, lets try to stay safe and enjoy the great music.

Safe Hugs,

Helga Hampton
