AMIGOS DE MÚSICA at OS AGOSTOS
30 Years of Great Music
To all Amigos/as
From Helga Hampton
Dear Amigos, October 21, 2021
Autumn greetings! We, who have the good fortune of calling the beautiful southern Coast of Europe our home, have enjoyed a picture-book late summer and early autumn. Giving us and our hosts in Os Agostos the much-cherished chance of sunny terrace pre-concert receptions. How enjoyable is that in October!!!
EGM – Extraordinary General Meeting
– This should be the first item of this Newsletter –
We have been able to conduct our AGMs – Annual General Meetings – as required by law and as part of our statutes, during the past two pandemic affected years only through virtual attendance, the last one being on September 30th, 2021. Please see the Minutes of this Virtual meeting in the attachment. Part of it points to holding an EGM in November for the convenience of members, and this is what I would like to inform you about here.
This meeting is planned for Thursday, November 11, 2021, to coincide and precede the second recital with Antoine de Grolee. Please plan to arrive at Os Agostos on that day between 17:00 and 17:30, so that the meeting can start punctually at 17:30. You will have a chance to discuss with the Officers any matters you may have questions about. And we shall have the opportunity to welcome and make the acquaintance of the new Members who joined us for the 2021/22 membership year, and to give them an insight into our business.
You will receive the complete convocation documentation for this meeting next week.
Please do try to attend – we consider this a very important part of our relationship with our members. The pre-concert reception will follow this meeting.
Our first October pianist, the Canadian Pierre Andre Doucet, was of course more than impressed with the beauty of our venue, and he was even more than impressed about the reception he got from you, the audience!! He felt greatly appreciated for his varied programme and said: “I can’t wait to get invited to come again.”
The second October pianist, the Russian/Swiss Irina Chkourindina, is waiting in the wings, so to speak. She will be arriving this weekend prepared to give us a wonderful programme of Russian piano music on Tuesday, October 26th, when we will hear Tchaikovsky´s “The Seasons” and 4 Preludes by Rachmaninoff. Thursday, October 28th, the programme includes 2 Mozart Sonatas and various Chopin Nocturnes and Ballades.
And here the November concert news: The French pianist, Antoine de Grolee, coming from Paris, will be entertaining us with music by Bach, Chopin and Schubert on Tuesday, November 9th. Following the EGM.
Thursday, November 11th he will give us a potpourri he calls “Night Music” with composition by 12 different composers, incl. Ravel, Granados, Glazounov, Janacek, Schumann, Grieg, Liszt, Satie, Sibelius, etc
You are able to make your reservations for all of these concerts NOW !
Please make your reservations by sending an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org
In view of our increased membership and popularity with other guests, I would urge you, members, to make your reservations as soon as possible after receiving this advanced notice.
As usual guests will be asked to contribute EURO 25.00, and please wait for confirmation as capacity is limited. There will be a reception desk at Os Agostos. However, to avoid crowding on arrival, we still request that payment for guests be made in advance – Cristina will, as usual, provide details when confirming places.
Safety Concerns: To avoid overcrowding in the short interval our hosts suggest that those at the back of the auditorium us the large double doors to go into the atrium where drinks will be available as usual.
Our hosts, Maria and Antonio Farrajota and I look forward to welcoming you again in Os Agostos, albeit all still masked until further notice. Let’s still be careful, let’s stay safe and enjoy the great music.
PS: Please see attachment of “Minutes of the Virtual AGM” on September 30th, 2021.
