Juho Pohjonen was born in 1981. He is considered to be one of the brightest instrumental talents to emerge from Finland today.

Juho began playing the violin at the age of 2½, took up the piano at 4 (he  considers that was a little late) and entered the Junior Academy at the Sibelius Academy. This is the only music university in Finland. Founded in 1882 it is named after Finland’s most celebrated composer Jean Sibelius. Juho completed his Master’s Degree in 2008. He has participated in several master classes of world-class pianists such as András Schiff. Juho was the winner of the prestigious Klavier Festival Ruhr Scholarship in 2009 and has won numerous prizes including First Prize at the 2004 Nordic Piano Competition.

Juho has attracted great attention as one of the Nordic countries’ most talented pianists with great technique and a reputation for intriguing interpretations of both mainstream and contemporary classics. He has given recitals in London (Wigmore Hall), New York (Carnegie Hall), Hong Kong, Vancouver, San Francisco and Lucerne. He has played with many well known orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Atlanta Symphonic, Helsinki Philharmonic and the Lahti Symphony – with whom he toured Japan. Juho has worked with world renowned conductors such as Esa-Pekka Salonen.

Juho has made a number of recordings of which Music@Menlo LIVE – Disc 8 Maps & Legends is one of the most famous.

During the current 2012-13 season Juho makes his debut with the Helsinki Philarmonic with Olari Elts and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra under François-Xavier Roth. He is scheduled to perform with the Philharmonia Orchestra under Salonen and Bournemouth Symphony with James MacMillan and Atlanta Symphony under Robert Spano as well as giving recitals worldwide.
