A TRIO CONSISTING OF ALISSA FIRSOVA (PIANO), TIM HUGH (CELLO) & ANDREW MARRINER (CLARINET) will be giving two concerts at Os Agostos during June 2017.

The first concert will be on Tuesday June 20th. and will feature Mozart´s Kegelstatt Trio, Brahms´ Sonata for clarinet and piano, op 120 together with Mahler´s Adagietto for solo piano, and Grieg´s cello and clarinet sonata, op 36.

 

The second concert will be on Thursday June 22nd and will feature Beethoven´s clarinet trio, op 11, Glinka/Balakirev “The Skylark” for piano solo, Debussy First Rhapsody for clarinet and piano, Rachmaninov Elegy for cello and piano together with Brahms´ clarinet trio, op 114, and Giamperi´s Carnival in Venice for clarinet and piano.

Alissa Firsova is a Russian born pianist, composer and conductor who settled in the UK with her musician parents both of whom are composers. In 2001 she won the BBC/Guardian/Proms Young Composer Competition with her piano piece “Les Pavots”. Alissa graduated as a pianist from the Purcell School in 2004 and the Royal Academy of Music in 2009. Alissa made her Wigmore Hall debut in May 2009 followed by a Royal Albert Hall debut. Her “Bach Allegro” commissioned by the BBC Proms was premiered in 2010 by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The world premier in 2015 of her “Bergen’s Bonfire” (Op 31) was by the Bergen Philharmonic under the baton of Andrew Litton.

 

Tim Hugh whose early success at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow led to a career as an internationally renowned cellist. He studied at Yale with Aldo Parisol and afterwards with Jacqueline du Pre whilst gaining an MA in medicine and anthropology at St. Johns College in Cambridge. He has since worked and recorded with many of the greatest conductors including Previn, Sir Colin Davis, Sir Andrew Davis, Menuhin and Rostraopovich. As a chamber musician he plays with the Nash Ensemble and as a solo cellist he performs with the London Symphony Orchestra.

 

Andrew Marriner is a British solo, chamber and orchestral clarinettist. Andrew comes from a very musical family – his father, the late Sir Neville Marriner, was an English violinist who became one of the world’s greatest conductors and who founded the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields. Andrew is much in demand as a teacher and woodwind consultant and gives masterclasses, coaches orchestras and judges competitions all over the world. He is a member of the LSO chamber ensemble and has worked with some of the most distinguished individuals in the world of chamber music including André Previn, Hélèn Grimaud and the late George Malcolm. In addition to numerous recordings with the LSO and for TV and film he makes regular appearances on the BBC.

Amigos de Música concerts at Os Agostos begin at 7.00pm (19.00 h) sharp. Doors open at 6.00pm and wine, fruit juices and canapés will be served. Entry donation is €25 per person for guests and non-members.
