OCTOBER CONCERTS

PIERRE-ANDRE DOUCET

The first of the concert series will be given by the French-Canadian pianist PIERRE-ANDRE DOUCET. 

Renowned for his vivid soundscapes and inventive texts, pianist and writer Pierre-André Doucet is a leading voice among Canada’s newest generation of artists.

He has been hailed for “the emotion of his playing and his impeccable control” (Audiophilia), and was named by CBC Radio 2 as being one of the best Canadian classical musicians under 30. Recently, he has performed in Canada, Europe, South Africa, and the United States, as well as across Asia, Europe and the South Pacific as one of the inaugural Lincoln Center Stage artists aboard Holland America Line ships. Several of his performances have been broadcast on Radio-Canada, CBC Radio and NPR.

Pierre-Andre’s concerts will take place on Tuesday October 12 and Thursday October 14.

Irina Chkourindina

The second series of concerts will be given by IRINA CHKOURINDINA, the charismatic Russian pianist.  Irina’s concerts will take place on Tuesday October 26 and Thursday October 28.  

Born in Russia and Swiss by adoption, Irina is a multi-faceted artist, whose talents range from concert pianist to chamber musician, from accompanist to musical dramatist. A graduate from Moscow’s prestigious Tchaikovsky Conservatory, she received a Special Mention from the jury for her work. At the Conservatoire de Genève, she obtained a post-graduate degree as a chamber musician.Irina has distinguished herself in numerous international competitions.

Her repertoire is broad, with a fondness for Russian composers  Prokofiev, Shostakovich and Rachmaninoff. Romantic composers  Liszt, Chopin and Schumann. Among her favorite composers are Dutilleux, Gubaidulina, and Schedrin.

From the 1st October the Government has removed the requirement for social distancing although masks will still have to be worn inside the auditorium.

This allows us to revert to “normal” full-auditorium evening performances. Thus there will be no more matinees.

The concerts will take place in the auditorium at Os Agostos. Doors will open at 6.00pm and the concert will begin at 7.00pm. There will be wine, fruit juices and canapés available for self-service. Entry donation is €25 per person for guests and non-members payable in advance by bank transfer.
