30 Years of Great Music

To all Amigos/as

From Helga Hampton

Dear Amigos,                                                                                                  December 1, 2021

Many of us celebrated Thanksgiving with our families. We have a lot to be grateful for – this autumn we were able to enjoy live and alive music at our great venue and the last 2 recitals are upon us.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your careful enthusiasm, your unwavering encouragement and your faithful loyalty during 2021. I am particularly grateful to you for heeding so well all the restrictions we had to pass on to you as part of the pandemic rulings, a fact that has allowed us to continue with our programmes.  We are particularly helped in this by the favourable conditions offered in our spacious venue, and the generous opening up of the White Dining Room at Os Agostos has given us the chance to continue with our hospitality, too.

There is no need for me to spell out the constant vigilance necessary during these precarious pandemic times – we all are aware of our individual responsibilities. And the latest pronouncements of the Portuguese Government have forced our Os Agostos hosts to send the following information:

“As far as the new COVId 19 restrictions are concerned we have to make sure to implement the following ruling:

1.       Masks compulsory in all closed spaces

2.       Everyone must provide a vaccination certificate (VC)   The ruling requires a VC from everybody upon arrival. “

As you are aware of receiving from us regularly updated “Rules and Concerns”, you will find these new restrictions reflected on the latest leaflet (attached).

Please be prepared to produce your VC, either as a paper document or as an app on your mobile phone, and show it at the Reception Desk when you check in.  The Reception Desk is at the entrance

of the White Dining Room. HOWEVER, if you are unable to comply, and have already made a reservation, please let Cristina know so that your place can be passed on to someone else.  Thanks.

DECEMBER RECITALS:  If you have not yet made your reservations for the December recitals, please do so now, before we open the reservation line to the public.

Our December pianist is Nuno Marques, whose CV will seem very familiar to you, as he was one of AAMSL`’s protégés during his studies at the RCM in London. He comes to us from New York, where he has a remarkable career in his field, and he is accompanied by his wife, who is a composer.

Tuesday, December 14th, he will be playing works mainly by Iberian composers or music influenced by them.  On Thursday 16th, we shall have a Bach Partita and Liszt Sonatas.

Please make your reservations for these 2 evenings now, by sending an email to:

In view of our increased membership and popularity with other guests, I would urge you   to avail yourselves of the early-booking-membership privilege by making your reservations as soon as possible after receiving this notice!

And, please, do not forget to cancel your reservation if at the last moment you find that you cannot attend. We have a waiting list!!!

BOOKING DETAILS:  As usual, guests will be asked to contribute EURO 25.00, and please wait for confirmation as capacity is limited.  There will be a reception desk at Os Agostos. However, to avoid crowding on arrival, we still request that payment for guests be made in advance – Cristina will, as usual, provide details when confirming places.  Upon arrival at Os Agostos, please pass by said reservation desk to SHOW YOUR VC!  and to pick up your “RESERVED” sign for marking your seat preference in the auditorium.

Return to the public area where the welcome reception is prepared in the spacious Os Agostos White Dining Room for easier circulation, and during intervals, please always keep as much distancing as possible.

Our hosts asked me to pass on this message:

Please do not come before 18:00 and still observe our SAFETY CONCERNS and HOUSE RULES

Our hosts, Maria and Antonio Farrajota and I look forward to welcoming you again in Os Agostos, albeit all still masked.  Let’s continue to be careful, let’s stay safe and enjoy the great music.

Safe Hugs,

Helga Hampton
