Caminus Duo – Joana Vieira Shumova (piano) & Mikhail Shumov (cello) – will give 2 concerts on October 18 & 20, 2016 at Os Agostos. On Tuesday October 18th. Joana and Mikhail will play music by Glazunov, Tchaikovsky, Freitas Branco, Prokofiev and Martinu. On Thursday October 20th. they will play compositions by Brahms, Piazzolla and Rachmaninov.
Caminus Duo was formed in 2009 by Joana and Mikhail. Since then they developed a vast repertoire which they have performed in many concerts in the UK, Portugal, Russia, Italy and Spain to considerable critical acclaim.
Mikhail Shumov was born in Moscow in 1983 where he started his musical studies at a very early age initially with Zola Kuimova and Igor Gavrysh at the Gnessin State Music College and later the Moscow Sate Music Conservatory. In 2010 Mikhail graduated with distinction from the Royal College of Music in London under the tutelage of Aleksander Boyarsky supported by Hester Laverne and the Douglas and Hilda Simmonds Awards. Mikhail has participated in many concerts both as a solo artist and as a chamber musician and has won many prizes. He has played in many venues in Russia, Norway, Switzerland, UK, Japan, Germany, Spain, Tunisia, Canada and Portugal where he now resides. He has also worked with renowned musicians including Natalia Gutman and Stefan Popov and conductors such as Lucy Arner (Metropolitan Opera), and Lawrence Foster and Joana Carneiro (Calouste Gulbenkian Orchestra). Mikhail is currently principal cellist of the Orquestra Clássica do Sul in Faro.
Joana Vieira Shumova is Portuguese and started her piano studies at Faro’s Maria Campina Music Conservatory with Oxana Anikeeva. She continued her studies with Tanis Achot at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa and the Instituto Piaget in Almada. Joana was awarded a scholarship for Artistic Development by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to study at London’s Royal College of Music where she was between 2008 and 2012. During that time Joana graduated with distinction with a Masters in Performance. Joana went on to successfully participate in several national and international piano competitions. She has performed in the UK, Russia, Spain, Italy as well as the UK, Belgium and the Czech Republic as well as her native Portugal. Joana has participated in several master classes with renowned musicians including Tamas Vasary, Luiz de Moura Castro, Peter Frankl, Boris Berman and Sequeira Costa.

Amigos’ de Música concerts at Os Agostos begin at 7.00pm sharp. Doors open at 6.00pm and wine, fruit juices and canapés will be served. Entry donation is €25 per person for guests and non-members.
The AMIGOS DE MÚSICA is an international group of around 90 members who stage musical activities by internationally renowned musicians and also sponsor young Portuguese musicians. It is a non-profit organization and celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary last year.
