Sandro Ivo Bartoli is
one of the finest pianists to emerge out of Italy in the past 20 years. Born in Pisa, he studied at the Florence State Conservatoire and at the Royal Academy of Music. The most influential contribution to his musical development, however, came between 1991 and 1995 through his collaboration with the late Russian pianist Shura Cherkassy. He has played throughout Europe and the USA with major orchestras and has recorded for radio and TV. Next year Sandro Ivo Bartoli will tour Europe performing concertos by Frédéric Chopin in celebration of the composer’s 200th birthday. Sandro is also the subject of a documentary film for French TV titled “Musicien” due for release in 2010.
Debra Fast is a Canadian violinist who began her music studies in Vancouver at age four. She studied both the violin and piano and graduated from the University of British Columbia’s School of Music in 1998. She has performed worldwide but notably with the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, the Victoria Symphony and in Europe with the Armadillo Strings. For the past 3 years she has been performing with Sandro Ivo Bartoli and together the husband and wife team has crossed the world twice, performing the music of Schubert, Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms to great public acclaim. Debra plays on a German violin dating back to 1800 and passed down to her by her great grandfather.
Concerts begin at 7.30pm sharp. Wine and canapés are served from 7.00pm and also during the interval. Entry is €25 for guests and non-members. OCTOBER 12th. To 17th. 2009. PIANO MASTERCLASSES TO BE GIVEN BY PAUL CROSSLEY. Top piano students from Portuguese Music Conservatoria (Faro, Lisbon, Evora and Tomar) have been selected to participate in master classes which are open to the public. There will be concerts by the students on October 14th. & 17th. at 7.30pm. This initiative was enabled by the generous support of committed members of the AMIGOS.
ABOUT THE AMIGOS AND THE CULTURAL
CENTER
The Cultural Center, located next to the historic Church of São Lourenço, near Almancil, is famous for its remarkable Azulejos or tiles. The Cultural Center, which recently celebrated its 25th. Anniversary, holds regular exhibitions by well known artists and sculptors and is open to all. The AMIGOS is an international group of around 100 members who support the musical activities at the Cultural Center by underwriting the concerts which are regularly performed there. The concert format is unique. When you arrive and during the interval you can enjoy a glass of wine, lemonade or beer with canapés and have an opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones.
The Cultural Center and the AMIGOS welcomes everybody to their concerts but reservations are essential. There are also some vacancies for new AMIGOS.
