April 2017 Newsletter

Dear Amigos,

Spring greetings !

We are in for another treat – after the two great music evenings in March with the Berliners

Holger Groschopp and Adele Bitter, we welcome Lucy Parham back. She is an old friend

for the Amigos by now. As the creator of the ingenious and unique portraits of composers in words and music, she has been very successful all over Europe and she has already shown us here her programmes on Schumann, Liszt and Debussy. We are very lucky to welcome her back with her latest work on the Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff in which she teams up with the English actor Robert Glenister on April 11th and 13th, 2017.

I actually do not have to “sell” these events as we are by now almost sold out. There are still a

few seats left for the Thursday performance. It makes me very happy to have “full house” practically at each of our music events as this means that the good news is spreading and our

guests come from further and further afield. We are also insofar attractive to many concert goers as

our events start at the early time of 19:00 which gives people the chance of dining after the concert.

So, in order to further accommodate this arrangement, your committee together with our hosts at Os Agostos, Maria and Antonio Farrajota, have agreed, albeit reluctantly, to cut the interval of our programmes short. Instead of having 25 minutes pause between the first and the second part of each artist´s performance, we shall break for 15 minutes and dispense with catering. We shall offer wine and juices and have some bread and grissini nibbles standing by. This means we can get

out well before 21:00 for a meal in one of the ever increasing number of restaurants in the vicinity.

The Farrajotas, ever kind and ever generous, as a result of “taking something away” from the Amigos, have suggested to increase the catering time before the concerts. So, gates open at 18:00 and refreshments will now be served from 18:15. And if the weather gods also continue to be generous, we can look forward to this lovely reception on the Grand Terrace at our wonderful venue. How is that for an attempt to please as many people some of the time as possible ???

And, of course, I shall not be remiss in pointing to the forthcoming Amigos de Musica concerts:

Please make your reservations as usual with Cristina reservasconcertos@gmail.com or Tel. 91 4797980

The routine as usual: gates open at 18:00, drinks at 18:15 and concert begin at 19:00

Helga Hampton
