Dear Amigos,
Bliss! Might we have finally come to the end of two months of steamy tropical weather? My garden looks like a jungle and I am sure I have seen a Puma prowling through the undergrowth. Last month I was certain there were howler monkeys in the trees, but on reflexion it might have been my neighbours with the teenage kids and the black cat, having a party.
A big thank you to all those who have long since renewed their Amigos subscriptions and a little nudge to those who have not got around to it. Many have been approved on line drug stores travelling and several have been inundated with guests and some might have simply forgotten. Either way our 21st season is about to begin at the end of this month and it would be great to have you along. Thinking ahead, on the 20th and 23rd of October we shall have the pleasure of hearing two concerts from the charismatic Constantin Sandu, piano and Horia Vacarescu, violin. In November, after the Amigos AGM, we shall hear a final Gala recital from Joana Ballmann our sponsoree who this year will complete studies at the conservatoire in Cologne. This will be followed by supper thanks to the kind invitation of Marie and the team at the Cultural Centre. Also in November, Antonia Pedro Cebola, star of the masterclass series last year will be giving a concert at Vale do Lobo. And thinking a little further ahead we must remember that next year the Cultural Centre will be celebrate its 30th birthday. 30 years of hard work without any government or regional funding. 30 years of dedication to the visual arts and I am pleased to say, for the last 20 years, with the help of the Amigos de Música, to an annual series of concerts of good classical music which enriches the lives of so many of us here.
Kind regards,
Barry
