NEWSLETTER – September 2012
Dear Amigos,
We are now well into the new membership year and I hope you
share with me the elation over the grand kick-off on September 5th and 8th when Tim Hugh and Katerina Nazarova treated us to twomagnificent evenings of music. Many of the Amigos as well as other faithful music lovers expressed their contented relief with the fact that our activity continues in our habitual venue, and it was a pleasure to meet D.
Filippa and D. Katerina ofthe Sao Mamede gallery, who represent the new management at the Centro Cultural in Sao Lourenco. Catering also continues to please, so let’s look forward to a year of good music and good conviviality.
The next dates for your 2012 agenda are the Constantin Sandu piano recitals on October 10th and 13th, 2012 and the AGM on November 26th, 2012 when we shall have a chance to hear what progress our sponsoree, Ana Beatriz Ferreira, has made at the Royal School of Music in London. She has meanwhile played in public with the Philharmonic Orchestra das Beiras in Aveiro, where her rendition of Shostakovich’s Second Piano Concerto was a good success, and at the end of September she will be playing Beethoven’s Second Piano Concerto with the same orchestra in Leiria and Aveiro. (If you want
details, please contact me.)
The Christmas/New Years Amigo concerts are planned for December 29th and January 5th, 2013.
And with this we are in the new year.
ACTION PLEASE
The Barry Shaw Memorial Concert on Sunday 27th of January 2013 will be a matinee commencing at 11:00 at the Centro Cultural in Sao Lourenco. Paul Crossley will be playing some of Barry’s favourite music by Bach, Schumann, Schubert, Debussy, Satie, Ravel and Chopin. This is for Amigos only, but we intend to invite as many of Barry’s other friends as we can accommodate. For this reason please let us know whether you will be attending this special concert.
Please send your R.S.V.P. answer to Margaret Jackson, email : margaretjackson19@gmail.com or telephone 289 399052, or mail: Aptdo 3613, Almancil, 8135-907 by October 31st. Thank you !
The March dates have now been confirmed: we are going to welcome the “A Piacere” Trio on Wednesday, March 13th and Saturday 16th, 2013; a Portuguese/French/Italian trio to look forward to
Finally some “house keeping”: Statistics show that on an average 38 Amigos attend each of our concerts; we will therefore organise the usual preferential, or reserved, seats for Amigos in the first 3 front rows of the upstairs auditorium and the first 2 long rows of the downstairs one. This will give Amigos’ guests, who do not get preferential treatment, and other paying attendees who arrive early a better chance for good seating, too.
For the complete list of all 2012/13 season’s concert, visit our website: http://www.amigos-de-musica.org With any questions or indeed suggestions, neve
r hesitate to contact me.
