To all Amigos
From Helga Hampton
July 24. 2016
Dear Amigos,
This is an extraordinary Summer Newsletter, as we are between seasons 2015/16 and 2016/17. Our summer break during the months of July and August invites many of us to travel and to partake of some of the many music festivals on offer worldwide. I am writing from my London station and, of course, we are blessed here not only with the Proms but many an opera or other music festival up and down the country, and, indeed on the near-by European (!) continent; Savonlinna, Bregenz, Munich, Salzburg anyone ???
If, however, you are sharing the beautiful Algarve not only with your own summer guests, but the hopefully thousands of sun, sand and golf worshippers who energise the local tourist industry, you may also be informed about what is
going on culturally on the coast. Local papers will be the best source of information. Here a couple of hints:
Amigos have pointed out to me that the activities of the Orquestra Classica do Sul merit observing and following. Visit their website: www.orquestradosul.com or send an email to: info@ocs.pt, telephone contact is: 289 860 890. For their summer schedule ask them to put you on their mailing list. They give concerts up and down the Algarve in various venues; their outdoor events are also well worth considering.
There is a Benefit Recital of Classical Songs in the Igreja da Misericordia in Tavira on Friday, July 29th at 19:30. This is in aid of the Algarve Oncological Association. More info via: www.theangeltheatreco@live.com or Tel: 91523748
The Amigos 2016/17 season kicks off on September 27th and 29th, 2016 with the British pianist Charles Owen at Os Agostos. You will hear more about this in my next communication which will come together with the Convocation to our AGM on September 27th, 2016 at Os Agostos. All members will be sent this Convocation.
So, let me take this opportunity to thank all of those Amigos who have already renewed their membership by contacting the Treasurer, Michael Savage and sending their much needed membership fee. At the same time may I ask the others to consider this a polite reminder to do so as soon as convenient.
We can look forward to another season of excellent music making, but continued success is only guaranteed on the basis of your subscriptions.
Wishing you a great summer.
Greetings from a lovely and sunny London,
With kindest regards,
Helga Hampton
