APRIL 2017 CONCERTS

LUCY PARHAM         ROBERT GLENISTER

On Tuesday April 11th. and Thursday April 13th. 2017, Lucy Parham, the pianist and Robert Glenister, the actor will perform “Elégie” – Rachmaninoff – A Heart in Exile”. This chronicles the life of composer and pianist Sergei Rachmaninoff. This biographical programme is scripted from the composer’s letters and diaries compiled by Lucy Parham. BOTH PERFORMANCES WILL BE THE SAME.

 

Lucy Parham first came to prominence when she was the Piano Winner of the 1984 BBC Young Musician of the Year. She made her Royal Festival Hall debut when she was 16 and has played throughout the UK as a soloist. Lucy toured the USA, Mexico and Turkey with the BBC Concert Orchestra on its 50th. Anniversary. Lucy is famous for her portraits in words and music of such famous composers as Schumann (Beloved Clara), Liszt – An Odyssey of Love, Nocturne – The Romantic Life of Frédéric Chopin, Rêverie – the life and loves of Claude Debussy. Lucy has previously performed her concerts to the Amigos.

 

Lucy has the ability to get inside the personality of the composers whose music she plays and to devise the programs of words and music which enable audiences to share the experience. Lucy is acknowledged to be one of Britain’s finest pianists and applies her sensitivity and imagination not only to concerts and recitals, but also to portraits of composers.

 

Lucy Parham has made numerous recordings including Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, and concertos by Ravel, Fauré, Franck and Schumann. She is a regular presenter and guest on BBC radio and TV. You can read more about Lucy on her website www.lucyparham.com/elegie.htm

 

Robert Glenister is one of Britain’s best known and highly versatile actors. Born in 1956 he finished his education at Wadham College, Oxford. As a TV actor Robert is known for his roles as conman Ash Morgan in Hustle and Nicholas Blake in Spooks. As a hugely acclaimed theatre actor Robert has appeared in Noises Off (The Old Vic), Great Britain (National Theatre) The Winterling (Royal Court). He has appeared in many films including “Creation”, a very controversial film about Charles Darwin and his family. Robert can frequently be heard on BBC Radio 4 dramas and among his many credits are Paradise Lost and Ghost On The Moor. Amigos de Música concerts at Os Agostos begin at 7.00pm sharp. Doors open at 6.00pm and wine, fruit juices and canapés will soon be served. Guests and non-members are asked to donate €25 per person to help offset expenses.

 

The AMIGOS DE MÚSICA is an international group of around 95 members who stage musical activities by internationally renowned musicians and also sponsor young Portuguese musicians. It is a non-profit organization and has been bringing great music to the Algarve for over 25 years.
