CRAIG OGDEN, GUITAR, will be making his first visit to São Lourenço. On Wednesday April 10, 2013 Craig will

play pieces by Scarlatti, Tadic, Tarrega, Turina, Bach, Slbeniz and Ryan and on Saturday April 13, 2013 music by Dowland, Piazzolla, Giuliani, Mangore, Villa-Lobos and others

This Australian musician started studying the guitar when he was 7 and percussion from the age of 13. In 2004 he became the youngest instrumentalist to receive a Fellowship from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester.

Craig is one of today’s most prominent musicians and his musical travels have taken him throughout the UK, Europe and the USA, South East Asia, South Africa and Australia. In the UK he has played with the London Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra, the Hallé and City of London Sinfonia, Ulster Orchestra and Denmark’s Aalborg Symphony. With the Ulster he premiered a new concerto by Ciaran Farrell.

He is one of the world’s most prolific guitar recording artists. In 2010 his record ‘The Guitarist’ went straight into the classical chart at No.1 where it remained for 5 weeks. He followed this up with ‘Summertime’, another top selling CD. Other records

for Virgin/EMI, Chandos, Hyperion and other labels have received wide acclaim. BBC’s Music Magazine dubbed Ogden “a Retrouvez d’autres jeux de a sous similaires a Captain’s Treasure. worthy successor to Julian Bream” – praise indeed. Another well reviewed CD was A Quiet Thing’ with counter-tenor David Daniels which received widespread approval. He recorded all three Rodrigo guitar concertos with the BBC Philharmonic and was selected as The One to Own in Classic FM magazine against distinguished competition including John Williams and Julian Bream. Rodrigo’s daughter wrote “This recording has confirmed your position among the greatest guitarists”.

 

Craig is married to the English opera singer Claire Bradshaw and they frequently appear at music festivals, television and on radio in the UK. They have also toured Australia and South Africa. Craig is Principal Lecturer in Guitar at the RNCM and Visiting Lecturer at London’s Royal College of Music. More information about Craig can be found on his website (www.craigogden.com).

Concerts at the Centro Cultural São Lourenço begin at 7.30pm sharp. Doors open at 6.30pm and wine and lemonade is served from 7.00pm. During the interval wine and canapés are served. The AMIGOS is an international group of around 110 members who support the musical activities at the Centro Cultural. The AMIGOS celebrated its twentieth anniversary in 2010.

 

NEXT CONCERTS. These will be on April 30, 2013 and May 3, 2013 and feature Javier Perianes, the well known Spanish pianist.
