Piers Lane, the renowned London based Australian pianist, will be making a welcome return to play for the Amigos and guests on September 29^th. and October 1^st. On the 29^th. he will play pieces by Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin and on October 1^st. Piers will play a very varied program by Scarlatti, Bach, Brahms, Schubert, Chopin and Schultz-Evier

 

Piers is in great demand both as a soloist and collaborative artist. Recent highlights include Busoni’s mighty piano concerto at the Carnegie Hall and the premier of Carl Vine’s second Piano Concerto written for him with the Sydney Symphony. Piers is a five times soloist at the Proms in London. His concerto repertoire exceeds 95 works and has led to engagements with many of the world’s great orchestras and conductors.

 

Piers has a discography of over 50 CDs, his most recent being a Chandos release of Schubert chamber music with his regular recital partner violinist Tasmin Little, OBE. Piers is Artistic Director of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music and has recently been named to a similar position of 2016 Sydney International Piano Competition of Australia. In the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Honours he was made an Officer in the Order of Australia for services to music.

 

The Amigos de Música recently held its Annual General Meeting on September 3^rd., 2015. Helga Hampton, the Amigos’ President, introduced, to the great approval of the members, the programme for the 16 concerts scheduled between now and July 2016 to be held at Os Agostos. Helga also said that the AMIGOS are accepting new members.

The AMIGOS is an international group of around 80 members who stage musical activities by internationally renowned musicians and also sponsor young Portuguese musicians. The AMIGOS is a non-profit organization and celebrated its twentieth anniversary in 2010. New member applications are always welcome.
