Charles Owen

 

 CHARLES OWEN has been described by Gramophone Magazine as “one of the finest British pianists of his generation”. He will be giving 2 concerts during November 2018. The first will be on Tuesday November 6th. and Charles will play music by Bach, Brahms, Debussy and Schubert. The second concert will be on Thursday November 8th. and will feature music by Bach, Brahms, Ravel and Wagner & Liszt.

 Charles studied in London at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Royal College of Music. His numerous awards include the Silver Medal at the 1995 Scottish International Piano Competition and the 1997 Parkhouse Award.

Charles has appeared at London’s Barbican and Queen Elizabeth Hall and regularly gives recitals at the Wigmore Hall. He has performed at New York’s Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, Brahms Saal in Vienna’s Musikverein, the Paris Musée d’Orsay and the Moscow Conservatoire. He enjoys a highly successful piano duo partnership with Katya Apekisheva. Together they are artistic directors of the London Piano Festival, an annual celebration of the piano held at Kings Place.

Charles Owen’s solo recordings include music by JS Bach, Janácek, Poulenc and Fauré. Chamber music CDs include the cello sonatas of Brahms, Rachmaninov, and Chopin with Natalia Clein and Stravinsky Piano Ballets and Rachmaninov Suites with Katya Apekisheva. Katya will next be playing for the Amigos on April 16 and 18, 2019.

He is regular guest at festivals such as Aldeburgh, Bath, Cheltenham, Leicester and Perth in Australia. He has also performed concertos with the Philharmonia, Royal Scottish National, Hallé, Aurora and London Philharmonic Orchestras. He has enjoyed collaborations with many leading conductors including Sir Mark Elder, Ryan Wigglesworth, Nicolas Collon and Martyn Brabbins.

Charles Owen is a Professor of Piano at the Guildhall School in London and was appointed Steinway & Sons UK Ambassador in 2016.

Amigos de Música concerts at Os Agostos begin at 7.00pm sharp. Doors open at 6.00pm and wine, fruit juices and canapés will be served. There will also be a short interval with refreshments served. Entry donation is €25 per person for guests and non-members.

 

The AMIGOS DE MÚSICA is an international group of around 90 members who stage musical activities by internationally renowned musicians and also sponsor young Portuguese musicians. It is a non-profit organization and celebrated its twenty-eighth anniversary last year.
