On the Thursday concert Sa Chen will perform Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, Sonata Op. 110 and Chopin’s Preludes buy viagra us Op.24 and on the Saturday concert a variety of short pieces by Mendelssohn, Schumann, Chopin, Rachmaninoff and Ravel among others.
Sa Chen is a young Chinese pianist who is considered to be one of the brightest performers of her generation. Sa Chen began her musical studies at the Sichuan Conservatory and then at the Shenzen School of Arts. She made her first major performance in 1966 when she was 16 and was seen live on BBC TV in the final of the Leeds International Piano Competition with Sir Simon Rattle conducting the City of Birmingham Symphony. She was offered a scholarship to study at the Guildhall School of Music and later studied in Hannover. She won the first prize at the 1994 China International Piano Competition followed by top prizes in Leeds and in the International Chopin Piano Competition in 2000 and in the 2005 Van Cliburn becoming the only pianist in history to have awards in the top three piano competitions. She has since had major solo assignments in Europe, North America and Asia and was selected to perform in the prestigious “100th. Great Pianists of the Twentieth Century” in Tokyo in 2001 and 2002. In 2006 she toured the USA with the China National Symphony and this year will tour the USA, Europe, Japan and China. She recently performed in Lisbon’s “Music Days” in Centro Cultural de Belém. ABOUT THE AMIGOS AND THE CULTURAL CENTER
The Cultural Center, located next to the historic Church of São Lourenço, near Almancil, is famous for its remarkable Azulejos or tiles. The Cultural Center, which recently celebrated its 25th. Anniversary, holds regular exhibitions by well known artists and sculptors and is open to all. The AMIGOS is an international group of around 100 members who support the musical activities at the Cultural Center by underwriting the concerts which are regularly performed there.
